You did it again

I haven't heard many of your songs... that is I listened to a lot of them but it can't be considered many due their immense number... but I think I've noticed a pattern, correct me if I'm wrong. Usually you make songs that are quite nice but nothing too special, and every now and then you make a song that induces a rapid descent of my jaw:) I'm talking about Unwind, Late Night, The Other Side, Survivor and now this. This is not as good as Survivor but still WOOOOWWWW.
Is that the FL Sytrus Male Choir that I hear in the background?? This means you still use FL?? And you make such f*ckin awesome songs with THAT??? X_X :D Dl, five. Keep it up!

TheComet responds:

I'm a bit partial to FL Studio :3

Using FL 7 right now, the thing is such a beast in the right hands!

ps: you left out Red Alert, Culture Shock, and The Ancients ;)

Not what I expected

The moment I saw the title I went WOAAAAAAAOOOOOW!!!!!!!!! because the original is my favourite of yours (and perhaps my favourite song OF ALL). But this is not what I expected. The beginning bears no resemblance to the original. Then the first main theme comes in and turns into a huge piece of epicness. Actually that is the only theme that I can properly recognize from the original. After that it's a different song again. It's very very nice, very epic, but you remixed it so well it became a completely different song. Of course it gets my dl and five, but the original remains my favourite. Btw I could picture this in the same 'perfect rpg'. Something like this: the original would be under a cutscene describing the land, and this one would be when the plot starts being told. With visuals only, mind you, no speech. Something like the intro of FF 12, a serene peaceful part and an actiony part.
P.S.: Have you checked out my reviews on your other account? There is just 2 yet but I might do more:)

MaestroRage responds:

the original is a favorite song of mine too. I may have already told you this, but that song is largely influenced from that river sound you hear throughout the entire piece. I listened to it for i'd say an hour or so, and gently a melody presented itself from the gurgling river.

It was a very peaceful day as well... I often wish I could replicate that feeling at will, I suppose if that were possible, I would not cherish them the way I do now.

I love the intro for FF12, a great game that!

Also which other account Skragga? Segments? I don't believe I have seen them. I will check that account right away! Respond if so. Thank you for this review, i'm glad you liked it!

Really nice

It really sounds like a final moments/farewell theme. But I think it also could be used for a new beginning type of cutscene.
The melody of the xylophones is simply brilliant, of that ment-to-be-like-this kind. The first appearance of that is the best part. Too bad that the violins kinda suppress it the second time.
Now the technical stuff. The quality of the violins is horrible. It doesn't sound too serious when I listen to it on the portal but it becomes very bad on my mp3 player. I suppose you got the bitrate way too low. I see no good reason for that either, the size is way below the limit. I think if you put it three levels higher it would still fit. Despite that it's still great. Dl+5.

P.s. check out my new stuff plz if ya have time. I recently made a song which actually sounds like decent classical, titled When All Things End. I'd quite like your opinion on it.

MaestroRage responds:

interesting. I thought I had exported this on 128 kbs, which is the average of all the songs. Perhaps I did not equalize them properly?

I'll have to see what that file again, I don't rightly hear a difference via portal or after download, though you are not the first to comment on those strings.

I will check out your song soon I promise :). Thank you for the review Skragga, I am glad you liked it ^^

Finally another jaw-dropper

I can see that recently you have been on a roll and pouring out songs at an industry rate, which is quite impressive, because classical songs are not quite the ones that one can put together in a couple of hours, I guess. All your work is very nice and professional, but these recent songs haven't been anything special. Don't get me wrong, they're great, only I didn't feel that 'wow-what-a-damn-beautiful/epic-song-must-download-it-inst
antly' feeling, which I felt with a lot of your older work. But there are exceptions, Sunset Requiem for one (I'll probably review that too)and now this. This one is finally something very original. It starts quiet, nothing special, but then those awesome violins(?) come in, and I can feel that something big is coming. Then the first big drums part makes my jaw drop. That is the best part of the song, from 1:14 to 1:36, the melody is very original and oriental, you could have repeated it at least once. It makes me imagine riding on the back of some HUGE creature, the landscape flying past below... very moving and awe-inspiring. The rest of the song is also great, but this is definitely the peak point. The drums are great btw, though they suppress the melody a bit, but it's nothing serious. The song could have been longer (a lot of your songs could). But even this way I love it very much.
Other reviews coming up, if I can force myself to do it... I'm very busy with being lazy, you know;) and I'll probably review some of the songs on your MaestroSorrow account, too.

MaestroRage responds:

you know, you're right. I felt that these songs i've been making recently havn't been standing apart too much. This piece was largely a learning piece, and full of experimenting.

The percussion smashes were really hard to figure out how to do, and ended up being a huge blend of 20-25 different sounds. Which became insanely loud, and difficult to equalize and master properly. I failed in that aspect but hey, it wasn't that bad.

I'm glad you liked this piece Skragga. I have been having somewhat dry spell lately, maybe I should just take a small vacation. Thank you for the review ^^.

Simply the best

I'll review this one first because this is my favourite of your songs. This is your BEST SONG EVER. It's simply incredible, I can hardly find suitable words for it. So peaceful, so soothing... and yet grandiose and epic. It makes me want to look at the sky and imagine undescribably beautiful landscapes, warriors in golden armor, huge white-towered cities, all glinting in the sunshine... If the perfect rpg was made, this would have to be in it. Everytime I listen to it it hits me like a freight train. Shockingly wonderful.
There, a vague description of my thoughts. I really mean it, every single word. Salutations to your skills, Maestro. Other reviews coming up too.

MaestroRage responds:

I like this piece a lot too. To be honest this melody came to me after listening to the river sound for about half an hour. I love landscape induced imagery, because they fill me with such a strange and peaceful feeling.

Your imagery suits the piece well, and I appreciated living in it for a while.

I'm glad you like this piece, thank you for the review ^^.

Soft hardcore o.O

The intro is annoying but it gets better when the beat starts, that fast synth is also nice. The melody is surprisingly catchy, it's stuck in my ears now... The instruments are again unusual but good. And again transitions would have added a lot to it.

amilicious responds:

Thank you! I will take your advice!

-Ami

What to write here?

I have to agree with MaestroRage that this song, and all your songs so far lack transitions. Transitions make the song sound much more professional, without them it sounds sketchy and chaotic. This song btw has some interesting sounds, the instruments are quite unusual which adds a lot to originality. I like the way they are quiet yet technoey, creating a soft chillout feeling. I can hear you have potential but you do need practice. You could also try listening to ng songs from the genre which you want to make music in, to get some ideas or learn about the tricks of the trade. I also do that sometimes.

amilicious responds:

Again thank you for the advice, I'm really trying to make my music better, thanks for the positive review!

It's me again

I forgot about this but now I remembered so here's a review for the full version.
You made this one much more interesting and variable than the previous one. What I don't like is the change of melody a bit after the cymbals, it sounds detuned in some places. But then those different synths come in and it rocks again. My biggest complaint would be though that there are still no drums:( Or you could have left it this way but excluded the cyms. Whateva. Perfect menu music again.

SolusLunes responds:

I REFUSE TER PUT IN DRUMS!

But the thing is, if you want to, I'd be glad to send you the .flp and whatnot.

Yeah, that little melody change was a mistake that managed to squeak in to the full version. Dunno how that happened, I thought I got rid of it.

*knocked out*

Like WOAOAOAOAOAAOOOW. This song is ultra awesome... it's kinda too long and repetitive but I don't really care... just two things, the vocal seems a bit out of sync and the snares should have been much louder. But even like that it ROXXXXX. Dld, fived.
Check out my stuff too if you got the time.

dj-Nate responds:

Fo sho.

What's with all the lawls n stuff?

You seem incapable of speaking english but you can make music... Reallly want a full version of this and part 1 too.

dj-Nate responds:

It's just joke submissions man, lol. I'm easily capable of speaking English, I just choose not to do so.
